Who is Mak Bedah? Siapa Mak Bedah?

Mak Bedah is WCI’s symbolic ‘everywoman’. She is an ordinary voter, just like any other Malaysian who is curious about the candidates that will be representing the interests of people in the constituency.

But far from being just a name, Mak Bedah has a larger-than-life personality that inspires and urges members of the public to engage and participate actively in the election process. She is not shy to attend ceramahs, approach candidates, ask questions, hand out leaflets and seek a definite stand on important issues based on the WCI citizen’s manifesto.

Moved by her energy and commitment, WCI members and volunteers take on her persona and join her to shop for a real candidate. Watch out for Mak Bedah and her friends, armed with a selendang, glasses, WCI t-shirts and manifesto, and importantly, a deep sense of curiosity as well as duty towards participatory democracy.

Age: 52

Children: Anak angkat ada tiga.

Appearance: Normal, like any Mak Cik. A bit plump. Pakaian harian, baju kurung dan kain batik. Waktu hari biasa, Mak Bedah jenis tak kisah.. tangkap muat aje. Kalau ada occasion, well, ehm.. kena maintain image juga lah… :)

Income & Work: Depends on rezeki. Macam-macam kerja Mak Bedah pernah buat, jadi kerani gomen, tukang urut untuk Olympic athletes kita (dapat pegi oversea tu..), aktivis kampong dan wanita… Macam-macam lah kerja ‘freelance’. Semua orang cari Mak Bedah kan, nak buat macamana… What Mak Bedah likes, Mak Bedah do. What don’t like, don’t do. Simple aje. But once Mak Bedah embarks on something, Mak Bedah make sure it all success. Tapi kalau tak sukses pun, Mak Bedah tak pernah disheartened. Cuba cara lain.

Education: Mak Bedah finished MCE (macam SPM la tu...), after that has to earn a living to help family. But Mak Bedah has lots of experience sebab Mak Bedah has been doing a lot of things kan. Tapi jangan lupa ya, zaman Mak Bedah dulu, habis SPM pun dah kira terror dah tu…

Home life: Now orphan already. Mak Bapak dah tak ada. Tapi sedara mara ramai lah. In fact, hamper satu kampong tu sedara Mak Bedah. Mak Bedah’s parents dulu okay, never controlled Mak Bedah. Always gave Mak Bedah freedom to explore and do anything. Sebab tu sampai ke tua ni, Mak Bedah berjiwa bebas selalu.

Political affiliations: Isyy… undi itu rahsia. Tapi, Mak Bedah ni suka menyakat dan mengacau penyokong-penyokong dan pemimpin parti. Kalau Mak Bedah tau dia tu orang kuat UMNO, Mak Bedah ngutuk lah UMNO selalu, bagi dia hot sikit. Kalau orang tu parti PAS atau DAP ke gitu, Mak Bedah ngutuklah PAS atau DAP. Kena objektif lah kan? Bagi diorang pikir dan kritikal sikit, jangan ta’sub sangat. Tapi lepas menyakat tu, Mak Bedah biasa je. Boleh lepak dan gelak-gelak dengan diaorang.
